Maintenance Worker- The Salvation Army

This position is responsible for all maintenance operations at the Harbor Light Center assuring all maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner that complies with fire, safety and building code.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  1. The boiler and overall heating system is maintained and building temperature is regulated.
  2. Painting, carpentry, electrical and plumbing tasks are completed as assigned.
  3. Preventative maintenance is completed on all electrical and mechanical equipment according to schedule with log books kept for all equipment on a daily basis.
  4. Work orders are completed in a timely fashion.
  5. Assistance is provided with snow removal when necessary.
  6. Maintenance supplies are ordered in timely manner.
  7. Setup/tear down is provided for special events. Assistance is provided on other facility projects as assigned.
  8. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Three plus years of experience with carpentry and painting, boiler maintenance and repair, and plumbing repair including faucet and fixture installation.
COMPENTENCIES 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Illinois Drivers license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Good attention to detail and an awareness of surroundings to maximize safety and resources in a fast pace environment.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, electrical, plumbing and other maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment and supplies used in janitorial and maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of fire, safety and building codes for the City of Chicago.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self starter.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
