Bus Mechanic- CTA

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance work on various bus systems and components.
• Inspects, aligns, replaces, adjusts, and repairs various bus components and systems.
• Uses instruments and gauges, including computers, to test and determine causative factors of component or system malfunctions or failures.
• Performs various tasks in regards to the preventative maintenance of transit bus vehicles, systems, and components.
• Receives, records, and verifies work repair data, as required, into the MMIS.
• Prepares written reports, as required, and performs administrative functions relative to vehicle repair documentation.
• May perform vehicle servicing/cleanliness functions on revenue and non-revenue vehicles as required.
• Operates buses and other Authority vehicles in and around bus shop/garage areas and along public right-of-way.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of verifiable work experience in automotive, truck, or bus repair and maintenance, or applicable military experience, or a combination of education and experience relating to this position. Possession of a certificate/diploma in medium/heavy duty or diesel engine vehicle repair from an accredited trade/vocational school or college will count as verifiable experience.
• Required to submit to and pass drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the Federal Transportation Administration.
• Required to have an acceptable driving record and a valid State of Illinois Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a valid State of Illinois CDL permit with Knowledge and Air Brakes endorsements.
• Must pass a mechanics practical test that includes both a physical and a written performance test prior to hire.
• Must obtain forklift certification, as required by OSHA, through the CTA Bus Maintenance Training Department.
• EPA 608 Certification in refrigerant handling and recycling is a plus.
• ASE Transit Bus or Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications is a plus.
• Must be willing to accept the job related responsibility and accountability that this position requires.

In support of this mission, the Auto Mechanic repairs and maintains automobiles, trucks, tractors, salt spreaders, snow plows, construction equipment and machinery commonly used by the Tollway in maintenance of roadway and structures.

Essential Job Functions

Incumbent to be highly skilled in all areas of automotive repair and maintenance, including the inspection of automotive and related equipment, as well as the participation in the documentation processes. The incumbent in this class should be skilled and have a thorough understanding of the functions of complex automotive components and diagnostics.The incumbent will perform all phases of repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, tractors, salt spreaders, snow plows, construction equipment and similar machinery commonly used by ISTHA in the maintenance of the roadway and structures. The incumbent will be responsible for having the knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the automotive/equipment repair field, as well as the knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions used in the mechanical trade.The Mechanic provides the ability and skills to use tools, machines, and equipment commonly used in the Automotive repair field, as well as the operation of electric arc, M.I.G., and acetylene welding equipment. The incumbent is responsible for handling the inspections of automotive, trucks, and other equipment for serviceability, in conjunction with the preparation of any necessary reports. Also, the Mechanic may be requested to work various shift times, as needed by ISTHA. The Mechanic may be required to attend training sessions both on-site and off-site. In emergency situations, performs miscellaneous duties, such as snow and ice control, general traffic control, and is subject to call out for emergency maintenance service at all times.

Qualifications

The incumbent must possess a minimum of eight (8) years of mechanical experience in automotive, truck, and/or equipment repair and maintenance. A Class CDL permit with an endorsement for air brakes is required at the time of Test. Candidates will be required, as a condition of employment, to obtain a CDL Class A Driver License with an endorsement for air brakes within the first 30 days of employment and maintain said license throughout the term of their employment. Failure to obtain and/or maintain said license shall be grounds for termination. Within 30-days of employment must have obtained a valid CDL Class A Driver's License. The incumbent must successfully pass the ISTHA Mechanic test with a score of sixty five percent (65%) passing grade. Incumbent must be a High School Graduate or equivalent. Incumbent must be able to meet the following physical requirements: Ability to lift 110 pounds floor to waist and 60 pounds waist to overhead; pull/push 150 pounds; and hold with arms extended, 50 pounds - up to five times per day. Physically stand for 5 hours, crouch for 2 hours, sit for 1 hour and walk for 3 hours. The incumbent must have the ability to use hands for gross manipulation for 4 hours and 2 hours for fine manipulation. Must have sufficient tools as required by ISTHA The incumbent must acquire and maintain all Federal, State and Local Certifications or Licenses required to perform the duties and tasks of the position.

• Performs repairs and maintenance on Authority automobiles, trucks, tractors, salt spreaders, snow plows, and construction equipment.
• Performs testing on all automotive, trucks, and equipment applications.
• Competent in the use of machines and tools commonly used in mechanic trade.
• Performs inspections of automotive, trucks, and other maintenance equipment as needed.
• Capable of using and analyzing the Parts & Service Manuals in use at ISTHA.
• Performs other duties as assigned or directed by Supervisor.
• Performs the duties as assigned.

Maintenance Mechanic- US FOODS- Bensenville IL

Responsible for upkeep and maintenance of warehouse-related equipment (i.e. pallet jacks, highlifts, forklifts, batteries, etc). This keeps day and night warehouse operations functional to ensure efficient shipping and receiving of product.
Monday-Friday
6am-2:30pm
$24-$28 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform necessary repairs and maintenance to warehouse-related equipment (i.e. pallet jacks, highlifts, forklifts, etc.) to insure that adequate machinery is available for day and night warehouse operations.

Review any equipment reports submitted by warehouse associates, record actions/repairs taken, and maintains a repair log per USF policy.

Perform PM’s (Preventative Maintenance) on equipment, and maintain PM log with proper documentation, per USF policy.

Comply with all USF and government guidelines regarding safety when working on equipment (i.e. Lock Out/Tag Out, placarding and required documentation, safe work environment, etc.)

Maintain and secure the battery-charging area, batteries and other equipment contained therein.

Responsible for company tools and maintenance equipment used in performance of job duties, including inventory maintenance, safe operation, proper storage, and security of tool area.

If authorized, may purchase tools and other equipment needs from local vendors to perform required duties.

Internal: Warehouse personnel and supervisory staff, Operations support, Maintenance and Sanitation personnel

External: Outside vendors


QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training: High School education or equivalent preferred; additional mechanic training or trade school degree preferred.

Related Experience: A minimum of six months previous mechanic experience Preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of equipment repair and operation; able to repair and overhaul warehouse equipment; welding ability; able to read and write legibly; able to follow orders; basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide); able to work with little direct supervision

Responsibilities:

• Ensure proper repair and maintenance of company vehicles and equipment by performing
