Summer 2021 Marketing Intern, Grand Central Publishing

 Hachette Book Group offers paid summer internships to students and recent graduates interested in a career in book publishing. Our summer internship program, which runs from June 7th – August 13th and allows interns to work 28 hours per week, offers students an opportunity to learn about the publishing industry and explore an area of interest.

To enhance your work experience, we offer educational sessions featuring speakers from all departments of the company as well as networking and career development opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in executing marketing initiatives such as mailings, outreach, brand partnerships, etc.
  • Coordinate meeting schedules for status meetings, author/agent conference calls, marketing department meetings, etc.
  • Compile and distribute agendas for GCP marketing and sales meetings.
  • Compile marketing and sales recap reports, launch reports, and coop for meetings and author presentations.
  • Write and/or edit keyword optimized thematic book lists, articles, quizzes, and genre-related copy that boosts search discoverability of our books and authors
  • Evaluate competitor data and identify new keyword opportunities
  • Update social media accounts several times daily and monitor author social media
  • Coordinate GoodReads and other book giveaways
  • Update sections of Hachette website through content management system
  • Monitor e-retailer account sites to ensure book and author data are accurate
  • Maintain NetGalley
  • Admin duties include: route galley copy, create galley orders, code invoices and maintain budget grid, coordinate mailings, schedule meetings, create and distribute weekly reports

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • A junior or senior, graduate student, or recent graduate interested in exploring a career in book publishing, with a particular interest in marketing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel required
  • Photoshop/InDesign preferred
  • Familiarity with social media platforms required
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Rigorous attention to detail

Winter/Spring 2021 Editorial & Publicity Intern, Basic Books & Seal Press Remote

 Basic Books is a leading publisher of serious, scholarly nonfiction aimed at a wide audience of general readers, and it is an imprint of Perseus Books, a Hachette Book Group company. Basic’s Seal Press imprint publishes radical and groundbreaking feminist nonfiction books that help readers to see the world in a new light.

We are seeking a creative and organized intern for our joint Editorial and Publicity Spring internship. This position is a wonderful opportunity for someone with an interest in serious ideas who wants to learn about all facets of book publishing and develop excellent writing and communication skills. The internship runs from March 8-May 28, is 28 hours a week (4 days a week), and is paid. Two days are spent working in the editorial department and the other two days in the publicity department.

Acquisition Editor Intern (Paid)- North Star Edition

 North Star Editions is looking for an Acquisition Editor Intern to join our staff of print and online publishing professionals over the summer. This is a part-time, temporary contract position that would last about 10 weeks during the summer of 2021.

NSE is offering this internship in partnership with We Need Diverse Books. The WNDB Internship Grant Program awards supplemental grants to applicants from diverse backgrounds to help further their goals of pursuing a career in children’s and adult publishing. Candidates who would qualify for a WNDB grant are encouraged to apply both for this internship and the WNDB Internship Grant Program.

NSE publishes fiction and nonfiction content for the trade and educational markets in a variety of media. Under the leadership of the managing editor, our Acquisition Editor Intern will assist in reviewing and producing titles for our middle-grade and young adult imprints.

Duties will include:
–Review submissions based on imprint wish lists and other requirements
–Write reader reports on selected submissions
–Cross-check page turns
–Perform proofreading and continuity reads as assigned
–Join the full team for weekly production meetings and sales/marketing meetings
–Administrative duties as assigned

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
–College student working toward a BA in Communications, English, or other relevant field, or a recent graduate
–Avid reader, with an interest in publishing and books, particularly YA and middle-grade fiction
–Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Google Drive
–Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
–Ability to work independently and in a team environment
–Excellent oral and written communication skills
–Qualifications and willingness to apply for the WNDB Internship Grant Program
–Experience reviewing submissions or working on a literary selection committee is preferred
–Experience or education in line editing, proofreading, and/or copy editing is preferred

The internship is fully remote, 20 hours a week during office hours the months of June-August 2021, exact schedule TBD. Compensation is $10/hour, payable semi-monthly as a stipend.

News Content Producer, WMAQ-TV

Responsibilities
WMAQ-TV, NBC Chicago has an opportunity to work in our highly-regarded Newsroom producing engaging news stories for broadcast. Here you will:
 
  • Work closely with the Platform Managers, DayPart Managers and Assignment Editors, as well as Reporters and Anchors to create high-quality and informative news stories with integrity and facts.

  • Gather content for all of WMAQ-TV’s news platforms, including but not limited to Out-of-Home, web and on-air broadcast.

  • Responsible for the overall coverage of assigned stories for all platforms throughout the day.

  • Expected to initialize, develop and produce news stories for news segment, as well as longer news pieces for air or specials.

    Responsibilities
    WMAQ-TV, NBC 5 Chicago has an opportunity for a News Assignment Editor responsible for handling a variety of News assignment desk operations.  WMAQ-TV is an owned and operated television station of NBCUniversal in Chicago. 

    JOB DUTIES:
    • Coordinate reporters, field photographers and other personnel covering assigned News stories.

    • Set up and coordinate live remotes, News stories and series planning working closely with Producers and other News team members and management.
