Summary:
Responsible for the set-up and operation of welding machines up to ½ “ by performing the following duties.
 
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Follow all company welding procedures.*
  2. Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope and pulse.*
  3. Sets up and operates electric and gas welding machines to weld metal parts according to work order, blueprint layouts and verbal instructions to meet specifications.*
  4. Selects the proper torch tip and flux.*
  5. Regulates flow of gases for proper mixture.*
  6. Guides electrode or gun along the weld line manually while maintaining the length of the arc and speed of movement to form the specified depth of fusion and bead as judged from the color of the metal, sound of the weld, and size of molten puddle.*
  7. Sets up and operates stick welding machines to repair, join or fabricate parts by working with  blueprints, sketches or verbal orders.*
  8. Studies blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications to determine the type and dimensions of metal the stock requires.*
  9. Operates forklift as needed.*
  10. Moves material with appropriate equipment throughout the work area as needed.*
  11. Welds in flat, horizontal and vertical positions.*
  12. Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.*
  13. Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece using a wire brush, portable grinder.*
  14. Cuts metal plates or structural shapes.*
  15. Maintains tools, gages and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner.*
  16. Assists in scheduling work load and recommends tooling needs to save time.*
  17. Reports production discrepancies to management.*
  18. Complies with company policies and procedures while paying special attention to safety regulations.*

Responsibilities:
  • Ability to read shop/construction drawings, use measuring tools, and do math calculations
  • Developing layouts and plan sequence of operations
  • Awareness of personal and workplace safety

  • Tools used include, shear, iron worker, band/cold saw, drill press, plasma torch, oxy/acetylene, bench grinder, coping machine, table saw, and others. Specific skills include the following

Essential Job Functions

Position Reporting Structure Includes:

The position reports to and receives assignments from the Maintenance Section Manager / Supervisor.  At the discretion of the Manager / Supervisor, and in accordance with union contract, may be assigned to a scheduled shift as needed.  On occasion, and as assigned, can serve as crew leader to supervise other Tollway employees on various job assignments.   When the conditions arise, will guide and train maintenance employees having less experience by providing knowledge of the work, demonstrating equipment operation, or explaining roadway maintenance procedures.

Position Physical and Mental Demands Include:

Must be able to demonstrate a full range of motion in the performance of moderate to heavy labor including: the ability to operate automotive and construction equipment including loading and unloading with intermittent rest;  driving equipment with intermittent rest; ability to drive a loaded single or tandem axle snow plow truck, plowing snow and spreading material for extended time periods with only limited rest periods; lifting and carrying 50 to 100 pounds with intermittent rest five times a day; climbing ladders and stairs with intermittent rest; sitting, reaching above shoulder level with intermittent rest; standing with intermittent rest; bending or stooping with intermittent rest; working in and with wet surfaces which includes getting hands and feet wet; working with dust, fumes and gases which may cause respiratory, skin or allergic irritants; good finger dexterity with the ability to use hands for fine manipulations; effective oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications

Education (Required) 

  • Must possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Skills and Experience (Required)
  • A Class "A" CDL permit with an endorsement of air brakes, tanker and combination is required at the time of interview. Candidates will be required, as a condition of employment, to obtain a CDL Class A Driver's License with an "N" endorsement within the first 30 days of employment and maintain said license throughout the term of their employment
  • Must be available during snow and ice season (November 1st through April 1st). Vacations are restricted during this time
  • Must be available for shift work, which may include: overtime hours, weekends, nights, holidays, and mandatory call outs during the winter season and during emergency situations

Sidewalk Shovel Crew Member - SNOW REMOVAL (Chicagoland Area)

Snowplus Services, LLC Chicagoland’s leader in the snow removal industry, is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Sidewalk Shovel Crew Member out of our Chicagoland locations.

 

Availability to work Mid-September to Mid-April is essential.

Sidewalk Shovel Crew Member reports to the Area Manager.  Crews are usually made up 2-4 people (refer your friends!) They primarily oversee all snow shoveling of an assigned area and help to ensure timely, high quality work.

 

Qualifications:

·        Previous landscaping/construction and snow removal experience is preferred.

·        Sidewalk Shovel Crew Member must be available to be on call and able to work anytime it snows.

·        Must be able to work long shifts.

·        Knowledge and understanding of snow removal operations.

·        Previous experience operating various pieces of equipment such as snow blower, salters, and types of shovels.

·        Ability to lift 50+ pounds may be necessary.

·        Sidewalk Shovel Crew will ensure that all snow is removed efficiently.

·        Only candidates with a drug free background will be considered.

 

A valid driver’s license is NOT needed, however, reliable transportation will be required to either get you to your designated shop or work site (keep in mind buses do not run 24/7, and the majority of work is done overnight).  Snowplus Services, LLC does not provide any type of uniform besides a safety vest.  You oversee supplying your own boots, jackets, gloves, etc.  Training starts end of September and runs through November.
