What you will be doing…

Under the general supervision of the Site Manager, the ECE Teacher is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of an education plan that is designed to meet the needs of each individual child enrolled in the program in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and NAEYC Standards and State Pre-K (CPS-Preventive Initiative Center Base Program).

 

Responsibilities:

 

·         With the classroom team, ensure the implementation of the preschool program ensuring adherence to funding requirements as set by Head Start Program Performance Standards, NAEYC (National Education for the Education of Young Children) Standards and other licensing requirements.

·         Create and maintain a safe environment which promotes the safety, trust, respect and security for children, staff and parents.

·         Provides an overall classroom environment that is reflective of multi-ethnic populations, is conducive to enjoyment, relaxation and socialization and has well defined interest areas. Shares responsibility for room arrangements and clean-up after daily classroom activities. 

·         Promotes recognition, acceptance and positive interactions among children and among staff.

·         With the classroom team, plans, prepares and implements developmentally appropriate child initiated and teacher directed activities for individuals, small and large groups of children.

·         With the classroom team, supervises all of the children’s activities, modeling respect and acceptance of each child as an individual.

·         With the classroom team, identifies children who may need specialized services.

·         Observe and report children’s health, development, and behavior to the team teacher and experts.

·         Ensure soiled diaper/clothing is changed throughout the day and as needed.

·         Completes observations, anecdotal notes, screenings, Teaching Strategies GOLD checkpoints, home visits and parent teacher conferences as required.

·         Attends weekly team meetings  to complete lesson plans, discuss children’s progress and individual needs, discuss check points, parent teacher conferences, home visits etc.

·         Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with parents. Is available for formal and informal conferences on a daily basis. Participates in monthly parent meetings and activities.

·         Collaborate with other staff, volunteers, and/or neighborhood organizations with on-going program implementation and in developing special events.


MUST HAVE

·         BA in Early Childhood Education required

·         Must demonstrate basic reading, writing, and communication skills at a level consistent with entry in college training programs. 

·         Two to five years’ experience in teaching toddler children and working with parents

·         Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

·         First Aid/CPR certificate compliance or completion within first year of employment

·         Flexible in work schedule

Benefits and Pay Rate:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Bachelor or Associate’s Degree in field outside of ECE, with minimum of 60 college credit hours or more, out of which 15 must be in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
  • Gateways to Opportunity Level 4 ECE Credential (registered and completed by 2023) 
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch

Relief Parent- SOS Children's Villages

Becoming a Relief Parent with SOS Children's Villages Illinois is a rewarding part-time commitment suitable for a diverse array of adults. The SOS Children’s Villages Illinois model of care is a unique one: we employ full-time, professional Foster Parents who care for up to six siblings in a single-family home in one of our Village communities. We equip our professional Foster Parents with the necessary tools to help heal and restore confidence in our children and their families.

Relief Parents are a part of this special model by providing assistance and support to our Foster Parents during their absence. This might include taking care of children for several hours at a time in a Village home or assisting with picking the children up from school and activities. Live- IN Relief Parent- SOS Children's Villages

The Live-In Relief Parent (LIRP) lives on the Village (at Chicago Village) in an apartment provided by SOS Children’s Villages Illinois (SOS Illinois). The role of the LIRP is  to provide full-time support and assistance to the Professional Foster Parents at any of the three Villages. 

As a key support staff they will support and enhance the  care to children to assist in the growth, skill development, and nurturing of children in SOS Illinois foster homes. They will serve in the parents’ absence and/or in combination with the parents and/or foster parents in providing a support system to meet the children’s needs. Provide tools and activities for educational development and enhancement in the absence or in conjunction with the foster parents.  

The Live-In Relief Parent may spend time taking children in their care to appointments or activities including visitations with biological parents.  

The Live-In Relief Parent is a part of the Village community and is expected to participate in Village meetings and be a part of the neighborhood in addition to the job responsibilities. While housed at Chicago Village, you may be asked to work at other Villages for Relief hours and/or meetings and activities.  

This role full-time and hours may vary but expect a minimum of 40 hours per week of active Relief work. The role is expected to start as part-time prior to move-in ($14/hour, subject to change in accordance with the law).  Upon move-in, employment will adjust to full-time salaried at $23,660/year.  Compensation includes room & board (SOS Illinois provides the living arrangements and a monthly budget for food and necessities). 

While the position is full-time with flexible hours, you may not hold another job outside of this employment but could do
online school or something similarly flexible that may work with your SOS Illinois schedule. 
 

If you are part of a committed relationship with a live-in spouse or partner, they can join you in the SOS Illinois provided housing (pending DCFS background clearance) and they can work outside the home.   

The overall goal of this role is to create consistency in the family setting and to help the children progress, grow, and continue to develop in a safe and productive environment. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Assist the SOS Professional Foster Parent in providing care, whether in their absence or presence, in services to the children including transportation of children to recreational activities, homework assistance, therapy, and additional supervision of the children. 

2. Provide responsible, "parental" supervision, monitoring, care and direction for the children consistent with the SOS Professional Foster Parent's methodology in the SOS Professional Foster Parent's absence. 

3. Maintain written documentation necessary for internal files and contractual obligations. 

4. Provide transportation to appointments for the children if necessary.

5. Prepare meals, do laundry and assist the children with appropriate maintenance of the home and attend to the general orderliness and neatness as would normally occur during the shift which relief work is scheduled. 

6. Carrying on the normal structure and routine in the absence of the SOS Professional Foster  Parent. 

7. Communicating with the SOS Professional Foster Parents as to events during their absence. 

8. Answer the telephone in the home and take messages or re-direct calls as appropriate for the Program and the rest of the Agency. 

9. Maintain records as required. 

10. Establish a positive, constructive relationship with the children through communication, interaction and role modeling.  

11. Act as a caring parental authority so as to assist the children in their personal growth. 

12. Maintain confidentiality of all client, staff and agency matters. 

13. Work collaboratively with SOS Professional Forster Parents, staff and others, including the children's biological parents. 

14. Be aware of the policies and philosophy as outlined in the SOS Parent Manual and work within those guidelines. 

15. Participate in on going training and maintaining certifications such as first aid and CPR, TCI, Med. Administration, etc. 

16. Represent SOS in a professional manner to the public and guests. 

17. All other tasks as assigned, including the supervision of biological family visits. 

18. Comply with all SOS policies, state, federal, county and city laws, rules and regulations. 

19. Answer phone and return all calls within 24 hours and read and respond to emails, daily. 

20. Attend general agency staff meetings, in-service education/training, individual supervision, and other meetings as directed by the Village Director or Supervisor. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be at least 23 year of age. 

2. Previous childcare experience.  

3. High school diploma (or equivalent) or beyond.  

4. Valid Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record and proof of automobile insurance coverage.

Toddler Lead Teacher- Erie Neighborhood House

Basic Function:

Reporting to the Site Director, the Lead Toddler Teacher’s basic function is to lead the classroom team in the education, care and general development of the children following DCFS licensing, Early Head Start and NAEYC standards.

Position Responsibilities:

• The Lead Toddler Teacher is responsible for partnering with the Assistant Toddler Teacher(s) to create and implement developmentally and culturally appropriate lesson plans for the classroom

• Working alongside the Site Director, the Lead Teacher will provide discipline and feedback performance review for the Assistant Teacher.

• Completes all developmental and social emotional screenings in accordance with Early Head Start timelines 

• Assumes primary care responsibilities for four children in the classroom

• Welcomes children and parents into the classroom and works to develop a positive relationship

• Promotes recognition, acceptance, and positive interactions among children, families and staff in the classroom

• Uses active supervision techniques to supervise children at all times

• Acts as an ambassador for the Erie Neighborhood House Child Care program

• Participates in recruitment of children and families for Erie House programs

• Acts as Director Designee for center as assigned

• Opens/closes the classroom for the day as assigned

• Remains in the classroom to supervise children whose parents pick up late as needed

• Inputs child observations into My Teaching Strategies on a weekly basis

• Completes My Teaching Strategies checkpoints according to education timeline

• Completes two home visits per child per year according to the education timeline

• Completes parent teacher conferences according to the education timeline

• Meets with Assistant Toddler Teacher(s) on a monthly basis to provide supervision and support and to discuss classroom concerns

• Meets with Family Advocate(s) quarterly to discuss strengths and needs of families

• Participates in transition meetings 

• Assures compliance with all Early Head Start performance standards

• Maintains current Illinois Gateways Registry membership

• Maintains five hours of Gateways approved training per program year

• Completes 20 hours of professional development training per program year

• Responsible for the program complying with Erie, the Board of Education and all State licensing requirements and performance standards, including promoting the health and safety of all children, following sanitation procedures and universal precautions, completing a bi-annual physical exam, complying with the Confidentiality and Child Abuse and Neglect Act as a mandated reporter, as well as the American with Disabilities Act and Erie’s Inclusion Policy

• Other duties as assigned


Requirements

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Associates degree in Early Childhood Education 

• Illinois Gateways Infant and Toddler Credential, level 5

• Bilingual/bicultural Spanish preferred

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

• Physical constraints required include, but not limited to, the ability to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds including evacuation of the building during emergencies.

• Must be able to sit on the floor for extended periods of time. 

• Demonstrates the following qualities: self-motivated, self-directed, follows directions, makes good judgments, creative, reliable, and dependable. 

• Exhibits sincere interest in working with children and is knowledgeable regarding children's development and growth.

• Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.

• Upon offer of employment, must complete all forms related to hiring, including Erie’s application and employment status and 3 letters of recommendation.  In addition, must complete all DCFS forms, including a Criminal Background Check, Fingerprinting and a Child Abuse and Neglect Background Check.


Compensation Range: $38,000 - $45,000, plus excellent benefit package.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Teacher in Gads Hill Center’s Center-Based Early Childhood program is responsible for ensuring that comprehensive early childhood education services are delivered to children in a safe, nurturing environment. In this position, lead teachers are expected to collaborate effectively with their teaching team to provide a seamless educational experience for children. This position is responsible for planning and implementing structured educational activities based on program curriculum. At all times, lead teachers must ensure adherence with licensing standards and funder requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Collaborates with teaching team to provide a classroom environment that is reflective of diverse races, cultures, and languages; adapts teaching in response to children’s differences.
2.       Prepares attendance records, lesson plans, meal preparation sheets, child development files, anecdotal and developmental observations of each child, maintaining confidentiality of family records and information. 
3.       Documents children’s growth and development using written observations, photography, and assessment tools.
4.       Utilizes developmental screening tools to determine the individual needs of children and assists in individualizing curriculum.
5.       Completes weekly team meetings to discuss lesson planning, reporting requirements, and the individual needs of children.
6.       Attends and engages in professional development opportunities, such as staff meetings, in-service trainings, and conferences. Participates in at-least 40 hours of professional development annually.
7.       Collaboratively plans developmentally-appropriate activities for small/large groups that address the needs identified in assessments. Activities must promote multiculturalism and aide in the development of critical-thinking skills.
8.       Assists center personnel in planning field trips and other enrichment activities.
9.       Develops and builds positive relationships with parents/guardians by greeting them and communicating with them, as well as providing experiences that enhance their roles as their child’s primary influence in growth and development. 
10.   Utilizes the assistance of the Family Support Staff, Mental Health Consultant, and other professionals to assist and refer parents to community resources.
11.   Encourages parents to become involved in the classroom, as well as the Parent Committee and Policy Committee.
12.   Conducts and participates in home visits twice per year at the designated time.
13.   Demonstrates knowledge of DCFS, Head Start, and Preschool for All standards and implements them in all aspects of work.
14.   Understands and adheres to NAEYC Early Childhood Program Standards and Code of Ethics.
15.   Conducts, documents, and does follow-up on daily child health checks.
16.   Participates in annual parent orientation/open house, at-least twice per year.
17.   Actively supervises and interacts with all the students in their care at all times.
18.   Enjoys family-style meal times with students and encourages them to serve themselves and feed themselves independently.
19.   Changes diapers and pull-ups, as needed, and assists students in toileting.
       
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all Gads Hill Center employees are responsible for the following:
1.       Participating in agency outreach and recruitment events, including evenings and weekends.
2.       Participating in supervision meetings and workshops within the agency and outside (if applicable).
3.       Participating in civic engagement activities that advance the mission of Gads Hill Center.
4.       Advancing parent leadership development.
5.       Performing other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.       Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Illinois Professional Educator License with Early Childhood Education endorsement required.
2.       Bilingual Education endorsement in Spanish preferred.
3.       Previous direct early childhood classroom experience with low-income families preferred.
4.       Experience with multi-cultural programming preferred.
5.       Excellent interpersonal communication and organization skills. 
6.       Ability to pass a criminal record and child abuse/neglect registry check. 
7.       A passion for the mission of Gads Hill Center.
8.       Must be able to lift up-to 50 pounds (average child’s weight).
