The Family Support Specialist recruits eligible pregnant women and children, birth through 3 years old, for the Early Head Start program, and provides education and support to families in DeKalb, Boone, and Grundy counties.
Responsibilities include:
- Recruit and enroll eligible clients in the Early Head Start program.
- Meet with families in their homes to provide support and applicable community referrals.
- Gather information from families about how the program can best care for their children, including any special needs.
- Assist families in obtaining required medical services for their children, and maintaining medical documentation.
- Assess family goals and needs and develop a plan with the family to work toward their goals.
- Network and partner with community organizations to locate resources to benefit the families served.
- Promote literacy by increasing families’ access to materials and encouraging involvement in classroom activities.
- Facilitate monthly parent groups that include parent-child activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, psychology, or a closely related field required.
- Experience working with families with young children required.
- Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Office products required.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and auto insurance.
