Respite Worker- Children's Home & Aid- Rockford, IL

The Respite Worker is a mentor for children and teens, 5-18 years old, who helps youth build on their strengths to reach their potential.  Parents are provided with respite to allow them a much needed break for personal needs, while their children are given opportunities to develop positive skills and boundaries. The Respite Worker also refers parents to community resources to help them meet their current needs. This full-time position includes evening and some weekend hours, and is a great way to start your career in the social work field!

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide one-on-one respite and mentoring services to adoptive children with behavioral and attachment challenges.
  • Work with program therapists to implement goals.
  • Plan group activities.
  • Facilitate monthly children’s social groups.
  • Refer parents to needed community resources.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in human services or related field strongly preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Experience working with children and families highly desirable.
  • Availability to work evenings and occasionally on weekends.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented, resourceful, and self-directed.
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation required.
