Human Resource Intern- SOS Children's Village

 Salary Range:

$14.0000 Hourly Onwards

BASIC FUNCTION

The Human Resources Intern assists with the progression of the goals for the HR and Recruitment departments.  The HR Intern will gain experience with online recruitment efforts, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, processing background clearances and reference checks, working with new hire orientations, and acting as liaison between the candidates and the organization throughout the hiring and onboarding process. 

A highly motivated, enthusiast, mission-driven, and personable individual with an interest in employee relations, aligned with our human resources and recruitment strategies, would make the ideal candidate as HR Intern.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand, embrace, and promote the SOS Children’s Villages Illinois model of care and possess the ability to represent SOS Children’s Villages of Illinois in a professional manner to interested parties, prospective Foster Parents, the general public, and guests.
  • Publicize the Professional Foster Parent position openings and other open positions via indirect and direct methods including advertisements, word-of-mouth recruitment, phone, and in-person outreach. 
  • Publicize all open positions with SOS Children’s Villages Illinois on the website and other appropriate hiring/job sites.
  • Assist with the organization’s recruitment efforts on social media and online sites.
  • Take a leading role in screening new candidates and scheduling interviews for those who meet the requirements.
  • Act as liaison between the candidate and the organization through the hiring process, including ensuring all new hire paperwork is submitted and processed in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Explore new relationships and track down potential connections and synergies for interested audiences. Use systems such as ADP and excel spreadsheets to maintain and track candidates and contacts, and ensure scheduled follow-ups.  Maintain a record of all candidates, sources, encounters, outcomes, and other relevant analytics. Provide written reports as required.
  • Assist with processing background clearances for approved candidates, including reaching out for appropriate documentation, reference checks, and acting as liaison with candidates to assist them through the clearance process.
  • Assist with new hire orientations and trainings.
  • Outreach to new employees to ensure successful onboarding to the organization.  Track new employee outreach and feedback for additional assessment and identify areas for improvement.
  • Comply with all SOS Children’s Villages of Illinois’ policies, state, federal, county and city laws, rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree (or progress towards a degree) in marketing, HR, or similar field with a proven record of success in recruitment, sales, marketing, or community development/outreach experience is preferred.
  • Ability to successfully generate own recruitment leads and build a strong recruitment network in desired geographic areas and/or industry sectors is helpful.
  • Knowledge of organizational development theory and practices in a not-for-profit environment, particularly social services is beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and superior interpersonal abilities. Proven ability to work in a diverse workforce.
  • Excellent word processing, filing skills, and proficiency in computer productivity software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access).
  • Organizational and time management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, strong results-driven orientation, and high degree of autonomy and accountability.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Bilingual capability Spanish/English (read, write and speak) preferred. 
  • Valid Illinois driver's license with acceptable driving record and proof of automobile insurance coverage is required.
  • Ability to pass DCFS required criminal background check including CANTS, and ability to provide required DCFS Medical Report/TB test.
  • Ability to work in an alcohol, tobacco, and drug free environment.
