Employment Case Manager Intern- Hana Center

General Summary: The Employment Case Manager will 1) outreach and assesses adult job-seeker for work readiness, skills, strengths, aptitudes and any potential limitations/barriers to employment. 2) Enroll participants in City of Chicago Workforce supported program. 3) Develops employment and vocational plans with goals and timelines that will help participants move their job search forward. 4) Support participants to become work-ready by identifying barriers and offering resources/linkages to other ancillary support services to mitigate barriers. 5) Assists with the creation of professional job search tools including resumes, cover letters, portfolios, etc.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Outreach and Recruitment

  • Identify community events and organizations, recruit participants;

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with program participants, employers, community partners and other stakeholders;

  • Effectively promote HANA Center, it’s programs, campaigns, and mission at community meetings and events;

  • Conduct outreach efforts to re-engage participants who are not actively participating;

 

Case Management

  • Develop and update program Individual Employment Plan (IEP) with the participant and monitor ongoing progress toward goal(s) completion;

  • Provide case management services such as counseling, linkage and referrals to community program as applicable to assist participants to build capacity and empower them toward job attainment;

  • Provide direction and guidance to address personal, social, educational and vocational issues;

  • Advocate between community providers, agencies, employers and service recipients;

  • Identify job ready participants and refer them to the Workforce Manager for paid work experience or employment opportunities;

  • Conduct follow-up with exited participants up to 3 months after exit from the program;

Training

  • Provide job readiness training, life skills training, career navigation and basic skills development including soft skills to individuals and groups;

  • Provide role modeling of work behaviors for participants: attitude, dependability, promptness, problem-solving and completion of tasks;

Administrative

  • Maintain accurate and up to date documentation of participant activities in participant’s files and with City of Chicago ECM system;

  • Maintain and communicate participant’s progress and achievements for statistical purposes and case coordination;

 

 Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  •  Demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice, with particular demonstrated commitment towards building community capacity and wealth.

  • Strong coaching skills in order to assist program participants with career development, professional goals and long-term workplace success strategies;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;

  • Strong organizational and time management skills;

  • Must be dependable, industrious, and have initiative;

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of team;

  • Language skills: bilingual Spanish/English or Korean/English preferred;

  • Ability to effectively network and maintain positive relations with other professionals;

  • Ability to anticipate problems and develop contingency plans to deal with them as well as evaluate and implement alternative courses of action;

  • Ability to bring and sustain considerable stamina and vigor to all aspects of the work;

  • Understanding of multiculturalism and ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds;

  • High level of proficiency in computer skills and high comfortability using the Internet.
