HR Generalist- Gift of Hope- Itasca, IL

 The Human Resources Generalist provides assistance with various administrative functions for the Human Resources Department, which includes, but is not limited to, maintaining employee files, HRIS data entry, and other projects as assigned. Performs a broad range of Human Resources functions to provide information and counsel to employees and managers, and assures compliance with federal and state laws and organization policy.

Responsibilities

The following essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Support Gift of Hope’s mission, vision, and values; adhere to its policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position
  • Demonstrate support for our mission through annual participation in a donor family event
  • Lead the new hire orientation process and make recommendations for continuous improvement; prepare new hire paperwork
  • Entering and maintaining employee records in the HRIS and Learning Management Systems
  • Assist with employee benefit programs including the annual open enrollment process, monthly coding and invoice processing
  • Manage records of current and former employees; ensure that all information is complete, accurate and up to date
  • Support payroll processing by updating employee changes in the HR system
  • Counsel employees/managers on routine employee relations issues consistent with the organization's Human Resources policies
  • Conduct exit interviews; analyze data and make recommendations based on the analysis
  • Present Human Resources policies and benefits enrollment information at new employee orientation sessions and annual open enrollment meetings
  • Prepare a variety of reports and analysis as needed
  • Compile, organize, update and analyze data in Excel for benefits and other HR needs
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Training Required

The following identifies the minimum education and training required to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or another related field

 

Experience and Skills Required

The following indicates the minimum skills and experience required to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • 3+ years’ Human Resources generalist experience 
  • Knowledge of federal and state employment law, and regulatory compliance
  • Familiarity with payroll procedures
  • Experience coordinating employee benefits
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization and with vendors
  • Position involves exposure to sensitive information, necessitating considerable use of discretion and judgement
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to employees
  • Advanced skills in Word and Excel; competent in HRIS and Learning Management systems
  • Ability to research and analyze various types of data
  • Ability to effectively resolve problems or issues by using judgment that is consistent with policies procedures, regulations, and past practice
  • Ability to operate under tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Ability to make effective presentations to small groups (<20) of employees
  • Highly organized with the ability to pay attention to detail to assure accuracy and completeness of records and data
