INTERNSHIP POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under supervision, interns are expected to develop a broad knowledge of Less Than Truck Load (LTL) operations, tools, processes and procedures working alongside senior professionals, managers and leadership in areas of operations and sales.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Gain knowledge of LTL industry principles, terms, policies and procedures as defined by company
2. Develop competency and understanding of processes and systems used in operations and sales
3. Gain understanding of analytical approach and procedures to measure operations objectives
4. Develop through understanding of intent and control measures of reports for processes that post results
5. Develop and communicate ad hoc reporting
6. Assist with various assignments and projects as assigned
7. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
8. Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be enrolled at a Junior level or above (or have graduated within the last 12 months) at an accredited college or university
• Major or course of study toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Transportation; Distribution or other quantitative discipline.
• A Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
• Must be reliable and exhibit follow-through
• Must be adept in completing assignments and solving problems
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills
• Experience and ability to use Microsoft Office Software, including but not limited to: Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Able to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and as a team member

Pregnant & Parenting Case Manager- La Casa Norte

 Casa Corazón is aimed at transforming the lives of homeless and at-risk youth, ages 16-24, by providing them with the stability, support, and guidance they need in order to become thriving members of society. Program participants will receive street outreach and access to a variety of services including a drop in center with youth programming and meals, basic needs such as transportation and toiletries, and case management services focusing on a holistic, strength-based approach, with a focus on housing stability and educational, job readiness and placement.

•  Maintain professional relationships with all staff and clients
•  Conduct outreach on the west side to: schools, churches, other community service providers and locations that homeless youth congregate both formally and informally.
•  Assist Program Coordinator in the management of appropriate program development and effective service delivery.
•  Partner with participants to assess all barriers to safe and stable housing and provide referrals and access.
•  Provide life skills training, counseling, support, and guidance to youth as they work to overcome barriers to housing, employment and education.
•  Take advantage of key “teachable moments” to help youth develop skills in decision-making, conflict resolution, time management, etc.
•  Provide effective case management services to program participants utilizing a “strength-based” case management model and monitoring participants progress through modeling, mentoring and positive relationship building
•  Refer youth to other supportive services as needed, including food pantries, clothing closets, legal aid services, parenting classes, substance abuse and mental health counseling, etc.; coordinating these services as needed to obtain wrap-around supportive services for clients.
•  Advocate for clients as needed to shelters, landlords, employers, and other agencies or institutions.
•  Provide crisis intervention services to Casa Corazon youth as necessary
•  Accurately track and document all services provided utilizing LCN Tracking system and Client Track.
•  Plan a monthly schedule for events, activities, and food menu.

•  Bachelor’s degree required
•  Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
•  Demonstrated desire and ability to work with youth experiencing homelessness, LGBTQ and at-risk urban youth.
•  Knowledge regarding the social, economic, and cultural patterns of Latino and African American populations
•  Willingness to work in a diverse environment in regards to race, ethnicity, culture, religion, age, sexual orientation and gender.

Housing Advocate- la Casa Norte

 La Casa Norte’s (LCN) Housing Advocacy Program provides case management, housing location, and income support services to families who have an open child welfare case and are homeless or at-risk. Our services focus on helping families obtain stable housing, avoid family separation and assist with family reunification.

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday. Eligible applicants must be available to work occasional evenings and Saturdays. In order to be considered, an applicant must have a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a reliable vehicle in order to conduct home visits within the entire City of Chicago and adjoining suburbs.

•  Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field, or equivalent experience required.
•  SPANISH/ENGLISH BILINGUAL PREFERRED
•  Strong computers skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet browser, etc.
•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•  Knowledgeable of the social and cultural patterns of Latinos & African Americans
•  Ability to work independently and creatively

Youth Empowerment Specialist- La Casa Norte

The Solid Ground Supportive Housing Program is aimed at transforming the lives of homeless, at-risk male youth, ages 16-21, by providing them with the stability, support, and guidance they need in order to become thriving members of society. Program participants will receive comprehensive case management services focusing on a holistic, strength-based approach, as well as educational and vocational training.

This is a part-time position, working weekday evenings or overnights, and weekend daytime or overnight shifts.

 La Casa Norte employees are responsible for contributing to the overall success of La Casa Norte by:

• Attending weekly staff meetings, monthly all staff meeting and other staff trainings as assigned.
• Participating in La Casa Norte’s fundraising events.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Bachelor degree preferable, but not required with relevant experience
• Demonstrated desire and ability to work with homeless, runaway and at-risk urban youth
• Bilingual required
• Knowledge regarding the social, economic, and cultural patterns of Latino and African American populations
• Willingness to work in a diverse environment in regards to race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation and gender.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Sidewalk Shovel Crew Member - SNOW REMOVAL (Chicagoland Area)

Snowplus Services, LLC Chicagoland’s leader in the snow removal industry, is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to work as a Sidewalk Shovel Crew Member out of our Chicagoland locations.

 

Availability to work Mid-September to Mid-April is essential.

Sidewalk Shovel Crew Member reports to the Area Manager.  Crews are usually made up 2-4 people (refer your friends!) They primarily oversee all snow shoveling of an assigned area and help to ensure timely, high quality work.

 

Qualifications:

·        Previous landscaping/construction and snow removal experience is preferred.

·        Sidewalk Shovel Crew Member must be available to be on call and able to work anytime it snows.

·        Must be able to work long shifts.

·        Knowledge and understanding of snow removal operations.

·        Previous experience operating various pieces of equipment such as snow blower, salters, and types of shovels.

·        Ability to lift 50+ pounds may be necessary.

·        Sidewalk Shovel Crew will ensure that all snow is removed efficiently.

·        Only candidates with a drug free background will be considered.

 

A valid driver’s license is NOT needed, however, reliable transportation will be required to either get you to your designated shop or work site (keep in mind buses do not run 24/7, and the majority of work is done overnight).  Snowplus Services, LLC does not provide any type of uniform besides a safety vest.  You oversee supplying your own boots, jackets, gloves, etc.  Training starts end of September and runs through November.
